I’ve often talked about how I love professionally developped fonts – in fact, almost all of the items I create use low cost or free commercial use fonts . The kerning is often much better (kerning is the spacing between letters), and they are often much smoother when cut using a Cricut or other electronic cutting machine. Since I use fonts on my blog and in the party products I sell in my Etsy shop, I have to look for fonts with a commercial use lisence (which means I can use it in items that I sell or make money from, such as my blog). This eliminates most of the free font sites like dafont (you can find some commercial use fonts there but it’s mostly personal, and there are so many varying qualities that I don’t waste my time.)
How to Find Low Cost or Free Commercial Use Fonts

So where exactly do I find these low cost or free commercial use fonts for my products and projects? There are so many options that you may not know of. I have a huge library of professionaly developped fonts, all coming with a full commercial use license, for a very little investment. Here are some of my favorites:
The Hungry JPEG
This is my absolute favorite, go-to site for fonts, graphics, mock ups and more. Every week, they have a free font of the week. For instance, for the week of January 11, this is the free commercial use font:
(If you are reading this post after the above freebie expires, you can click the photo, and just choose freebies in the top menu bar. This will show you the latest weekly freebie!)
They also have an amazing selection of fonts, graphics, and more in their $1 deals section. This section is always updated with great new products, and you’re sure to find something to suit your style here. Some of my current favorite fonts are…
This is only a small selection – there are 100’s of products available in the $1 section and it’s always being added to, so this is definitely an awesome place to start when searching for low cost commercial use fonts.
Also, The Hungry JPEG will often run bundle sales – so these are when a large selection of fonts, graphics, svg cut files, you name it, are bundled together and sold for an incredibly low price. So for instance, I just purchased this 10 for $10 font bundle – individually, these fonts would’ve been well over $100 to purchase, so it’s a great savings.
Click the photo above and choose “bundles” from the top menu to see all of the other bundles available! Also, you can usually tweet about the deal for an extra 10% the bundles, so I was able to score this deal for only $9.
As you can see, the weekly freebies, huge $1 section, and amazing value bundles are the reason why The Hungry JPEG are my number one for low cost and free commerical fonts, but if by chance, I don’t find what I’m looking for there, I also have a few other options that I always check and subscribe to for the best deals.
Creative Market is actually the first place I discovered for high quality fonts for free. Every Monday, they send their email subscriber list an email with 6 professionally designed, commercial use lisenced products. For instance, this weeks email freebies looked like this:
There are always six new freebies every week, and usually two are fonts. (If the freebies above are expired, you can still click the photo for the most recent freebies of the week.) The rest are a combo of photoshop actions, mock ups, templates, graphics, etc. I love this site because it offers a lot of free graphics and clip art as well, which I often use in designing my products. It’s a nice mix of products, which makes it worthwhile to subscribe to their newsletter so you never miss a freebie.
Creative Market also offers bundles, which are a great deal. They offer bundles across the entire site, but individual designers often offer bundles of their own products for sale. This is a great deal if you love a particular designers style. The January bundle is beautiful (the fonts are incredible – the image above is a sneak peek) and only $39 for 87 items. You will always get updates of the new site wide bundles via email if you sign up for the freebies. Given that fonts retail for between $10-$20 a pop usually, $39 is a steal for so many high quality, commercial use products!
If you’re on the hunt for great fonts or other commercial use graphic design products, make sure you sign up for the newsletter and check out the rest of Creative Market. You’re sure to find a great deal there!
Font Bundles is another great alternative for low cost and free commerical use fonts. Unlike the previous two, this site only offers fonts, not clip art or other graphic design resources (although they are a sister site of Design Bundles, which does offer other resources besides fonts). This weeks freebie is adorable, and no worries if it’s expired, because the newest offering will always show up when you click this photo.
One thing that I love about Font Bundles is when they hold auctions. Usually once a month, a bundle of fonts will be offered up for “auction”. Prices start at $1, so the first person to purchase the bundle will pay only $1 for the whole bundle. Prices increase with each person who purchases, and once it reaches $20, the auction ends and the bundle is no longer available. This months auction is called the Legacy Bundle, and goes live on January 19. (Check out their website or facebook page to stay up to date with future auctions.)
They also offer non-auction bundles, which similar to previous sites, are an amazing deal compared to purchasing seperately. They often have a Best Selling Fonts bundle available (this months collection is the 3rd volume) which is sure to offer the best of the best. There were too many gorgeous fonts included to pick just a few, so you’ll have to take my word for it and view the bundle yourself.
And there you have it – those are my three favorite options for low cost and free commerical use fonts – The Hungry JPEG, Creative Market, and Font Bundles. Subscribe to the newsletters, follow their facebook pages, and you should have a great collection of fonts that you can use in your projects and products without any licensing worries!
