My husband’s grandparents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend and we are throwing them a party. For their guestbook, I thought it would be fun to put a spin on tradition – I mean after all, how exciting is it to read a bunch of signatures in a book? (Answer: not very.) While I was brainstorming a solution, I was also trying to come up with a project for the new 5th & Frolic Project Life Kit that I received in the mail. All of a sudden, my brain went “LIGHTBULB” (with the Despicable Me accent and all). That’s when I came up with this idea for a Memory Box Guestbook that uses Project Life journaling cards.
*This post is part of a paid campaign with American Crafts, but all opinions are my own.
I really am madly in love with Project Life*
To create your own, you need the following supplies – or some variation of the supplies:
- wooden shadow box
- Project Life Journal Cards (I used the 5th & Frolic line)
- letter stickers (I used American Crafts thickers in gold glitter)
- acrylic paint and paint brush
- co-ordinating patterned paper (mine was also from the 5th & Frolic line)
I went through the smaller journal cards and took out the journalling cards that were duplicates or only had small spaces to write on. I only wanted to use ones that had a lot of room for writing memories. You must think I am obsessed with Project Life now, since this is my FOURTH post that uses the system (check out my Photo Memo Board, Printing on Project Life Cards tutorial, and All About Project Life posts for more) – and you would be right to think that! This time I got to play with the adorable 5th & Frolic line though, which has a light and almost vintage feel – it’s full of light blues, pinks, and yellows, mixed with greys, and had cute little birds and houses – perfect for reminiscing on the past 5o years I thought! (If you have been living under a rock and haven’t heard of Project Life yet, I will give you some details after the tutorial.)
The first step was to paint the shadow box, and cut the patterned paper to fit the bottom.
I placed the journal cards that I liked inside the box so everyone could grab one easily. The really cute things about these cards is that they are so cute on both sides! So it doesn’t matter if the cards go in the box upside down, they always look pretty!
I wrote my favorite memory of my grandparents in law with some fancy colored pens and can’t wait for everyone else to write theirs as well. What a better gift to give someone then a box full of memories? It certainly beats an autograph in a book, don’t ya think?
And for those of you who have been living under that rock… Project Life is a super simple approach to scrapbooking that aims to get those digital photos off the computer and into your albums where they belong. It makes scrapbooking quick and easy by providing coordinating kits, albums, and embellishments that can easily be tucked into perfectly sized pocketed page protectors. It’s a fool proof system that’s accessible to all and customizable to every level of scrapbooker. Where can you get yourself some of these goodies? I have seen a huge selection at Michaels, and I was impressed with the large variety of product they carry, so be sure to make a pit stop next time you’re out!

Sarah, I simply adore this idea (minus the glitter, hee-hee. we all know that’s not my thing). I need to jump back on the Project Life wagon — love all of her stuff. Love this idea! Thanks for linking up to the party, sweet friend. Trust all is well for you and your family. HUGS!

Hi! I found this post on Pinterest – and I am actually doing something VERY similar. I started a “Well Wishes and Advice” Project Life guest book for my best friend that is getting married. I left the cards out at her Jack&Jill party and will put more cards out at her wedding. It will also include pictures from the J&J, Bachelorette and Bachelor parties, as well as the wedding. I’m knew to PL so it’s fun to see all the different inspiration! Thanks!
