One of the things my oldest daughter likes the most at her parties is having a fun photo booth with her friends. (My youngest? Heck, it’s hard enough to even get a picture of her blowing out her candles before she’s gone like the wind!) So for the past few years, I have been creating two backdrops for every party – one for the food table and one for the photo booth. Then this year, I stopped and though – wait a minute, am I crazy? Why don’t I just create one backdrop that serves two purposes? I can set up the food, and while the girls are eating, I can move the table and it becomes a photo backdrop. The idea should have come to me a long time ago but I’m slightly embarrassed to say it didn’t!
Feathered Party Photo Booth Backdrop
This backdrop was so easy to set up and create. All I needed was a stack of glittered neon cardstock (we were going with a brightly colored owl theme), double sided tape, my cricut explore, and a black vinyl tablecloth from the dollar store. All of these things I already had on hand, but even if you don’t, the cost is really low – we’re talking under $5 low, if you buy your table cloth for $1 and use a 40% off coupon for your paper stack. (I got mine at Michael’s – I think it was $5 or $6 regularly, and of course I didn’t use the whole thing. I used about two pieces of each of the five colors.)
In Cricut Design Space, I chose the feather I liked best, and added it to my canvas several times. I made several different sizes, from 8″ to 1″ (I used the tiny ones to fill spots between the larger feathers, and then used them as confetti on the food table!), and laid them out to fit as many feathers as I could on one sheet. You can use this file by clicking here, however, you may need to purchase the feather image ($0.99) if you don’t already own it.
While the Cricut was cutting, I hung my black table cloth on the bottom of my deck. The one thing I hate about this is the wrinkles, but for the price, I deal with them. My daughter, nor her friends, have ever noticed. If you have a big black sheet, you could use this so that you can iron out the wrinkles – I use these table cloths so much that I think I will spend the $10 next year and buy a queen sized black sheet to use as a backdrop.
Once the cutting is complete, simply place double sided tape on the back of each feather and stick them onto your tablecloth/sheet. Voila! Instant backdrop! You could create so many different variations on this, simply by using the same black background, cardstock, and your Cricut Explore.
You can also easily create photo props with your Cricut and some cardstock as well – simply cut the same image 5 times, and stack together using double sided tape. Add a dowel or popsicle stick, and you have easy and inexpensive photo props!
