Hello friends! Did you miss me?! I was lucky enough to catch the nasty influenza bug of 2014 and was completely out of commission for most of last week – we’re talking I didn’t leave the bed out of commission. So things have been a little quiet here, but I’m feeling much better yesterday and today, so I decided I better show you this years valentines before it’s too late! (And it might already be too late for most of you, but for you slow pokes like me, here ya go!)
The idea for these valentines came from these adhesive mustaches. I found them in the Halloween clearance for like 50 cents for a pack of six, and since all the kids are just nuts over the mustache craze still, I decided to grab a few packs. I had no idea what I would use them for at the time, but now I am so glad I grabbed them, because they made the perfect accessory for my valentine’s day cards! (If you didn’t think ahead and grab any at Halloween, I also saw them at Target a couple of weeks ago – either in the dollar section or valentine’s day section.)
To make your own Mustache Valentines, you will need the following supplies:
- my mustache printables (download them here)
- cardstock (1 sheet/4 valentines)
- glue runner (I use sticky thumb because I love it!)
- adhesive mustaches
I decided to try out the embossing features of my Evolution machine on the cardstock mat for the valentines, so I also used the following tools:
- Evolution die cutting machine
- MAT B cutting mat
- “Spotted” embossing folder
(Remember, you can buy any of these tools – or the sticky thumb – at ShopWeR.com and when you use the code MARTHA, you save 20% on your total purchase!) Also, if you have a different machine, like the Cuttlebug or Sissix, the embossing folders are compatible with those machines too.
To get started, cut your 8.5×11 piece of cardstock in four equal sized pieces – so 5.5×4.25. This fits perfectly centered in the embossing folder, with a nice even border all the way around it.
Center your paper inside the folder, and sandwich the folder between the plastic platform and MAT B on top, then roll it through your cutting machine.
I have never embossed before, but the results were so cool! One side had really defined, raised polka dots, and the other side had indented polka dots. I couldn’t decide which side I liked better, so when I matted my valentines, I switched up which side of my embossed paper faced the front. Some have raised polka dots facing the front, some have indented ones.
I am definitely ordering some more of these babies… wouldn’t embossed envelopes be cool?
Oops… I’m digressing.
Once you emboss your background, or if you aren’t embossing and just using a plain piece of cardstock, use your adhesive runner to stick your printable to the center of your cardstock. Now use a small amount of adhesive to stick on a mustache.
Super simple right? I bet it will take your kids longer to fill them out then it took you to make them, and I guarantee the kids will have a blast! My daughter can’t wait to hand these out at school!
If you’ve already made your valentines (smarty pants!), what are your kids handing out this year?
