When I heard about this new flower punch board from We R Memory Keepers, I was so excited! It makes creating beautiful paper flowers a cinch, and they look so cute bundled together as a bouquet or in a vase. Best part? You don’t have to worry about changing the water and they’ll never die!
You know I love glitter, so when I sat down to create a bouquet for a teacher at my daughters school, I decided a glitter flower bouquet would be so much fun – so I set about creating them. It’s actually pretty easy to do – let me show you how!
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
- Flower Punch Board
- Flower Stem Kit
- Adhesive Cardstock (I used DCWV Adhesive Pad in Bright Solids)
- Patterned Cardstock/Paper
- Double Sided Tape
- Paper Trimmer
Step 2: Cut Your Papers to Size
One thing I love about this flower punch board is that all of the papers you need for each size of flower is printed right on the board – you’ll never need to remember or wonder where your instructions are. The layers I created were Small (3 inches), Extra Small, and Extra Extra Small.
Step 3: Punch Time!
Follow the instructions on the board, and align your paper with the start line. Score and punch as you go, and then fold until you are left with the flowerish shape shown above. (I say flowerish because until you put the middle in and the stem on, it kind of looks like a bit of a hot mess. Not to worry, it will come together!) Don’t press too hard when you score – I may have sliced clear through a petal or two!
Step 4: Glitter It Up
Take your adhesive cardstock, that you have already punched, and peel the backing off. Shake glitter onto the sticky side. Here’s a tip: If you hate glitter because it flakes and falls off everywhere, you’re using the wrong kind of glitter. Use a super fine glitter (my favorites are Wow! by American Crafts and Martha Stewart Crafts Glitter. These two never shake off for me, and I use them A LOT!) Make sure after you finish glittering, you give it a good tap to shake off all of the excess.
Step 5: Layer the Petals and Secure the Stem
I don’t have a picture of this because it takes both hands to hold the layers together and screw the stem in, but there are full diagrams included with the flower stem kit and it is really easy.
Also included in the Flower Punch Board is a curling wand. There is a little slit at the top to slide your paper in – I dont use that, because I find it leaves me with a kink (like when you curl your hair and you get that little kink at the bottom where you placed it in the clasp thingy). I just wrap it loosely around the whole wand and turn the petals either inwards or outwards.
When done, I printed this tag that said “Thank you for helping me bloom this year” and we will give this bouquet to her teacher as part of her year end gift. I tied the tag on with some bakers twine, also from We R (and seriously, this is the best twine, it doesn’t separate like many do) and added a couple of stickers. Cecelia really liked that she could create it herself – she picked out the papers, the glitter colors, and punched and assembled her own flowers, so it really means something when she gives a gift like that. You can go here to download the Thanks for Helping Me Bloom Tag for yourself.
Have you tried any of We R Memory Keepers Punch Boards yet? They are amazing – I have the flower and the envelope. You can basically create punches in whatever size you want, and it comes in so many styles including gift bags, candy boxes, and pillow boxes. Here’s a little video on how they work, using the gift bag punch as an example (for other punch board videos – click here):
