Whip up this black and gold glam Halloween wreath in no time using decoupage, paint, acorns, and a frame from the dollar section!
For this wreath, I used the following supplies (affiliate links provided where possible so you can shop right from home!):
- Martha Stewart Decoupage Halloween Papers (tissue paper also works)
- Martha Stewart Matte Decoupage
- acrylic paint (black and gold)
- brushes (having ones dedicated to decoupage is a good idea)
- Wreath form (Amazon has a great deal – under $5!)
- Acorns
- Scissors
- Other embellishments, such a a mini frame and scrapbooking letters
Glam Halloween Wreath How To
To start, cut your decoupage paper into strips.
Using your brush, apply decoupage formula to the wreath form, wrap with paper, and brush the decoupage over the paper as well.
You could use regular paper, but here’s what is so amazing about this decoupage papers: It doesn’t wrinkle or bubble, and….
The excess formula seems to ooze through the paper without breaking it down, and you can use your brush to spread the beads across the top of the paper as well. The paper seems very thin like tissue paper almost, but it didn’t even start to tear or break down under all of the adhesive.
Continue wrapping your form with the strips of paper until it is all covered. Then, get started on your embellishments.
Glam Halloween Wreath: The Details
I used a small red frame that I painted black and then rubbed a couple of spots to expose some of the red. Then, I brushed a little gold paint over the black.
Next, I painted my acorns. I used the gold and black paint again and painted bottoms and tops in each colors. Then, I glued the tops on to the bottoms so that black tops were with gold acorns, and vice versa.
I covered the back of the frame with a complimentary decoupage paper, again using the matte formula, and glued it on to the wreath with hot glue. (Hot glue is okay to use in the winter – but be careful of putting it outside if it’s still hot where you are. It will melt under the sun!) I also added the word BOO! to the frame. Then, I glued a few acorns around the frame.
On the other side, I added an acorn top and a little black glittered spider, and then hung it with a sparkly black wired ribbon.
And there you have it! Doesn’t it look great? I love how it looks on my front door. The black and gold are perfect together! I also love that I can hang a paper wreath outside because the decoupage is protecting it!
Isn’t it so lovely?! Remember, if you make your own glam Halloween wreath, let me know! You can tag me on instagram (@simplycraftedlife) so I can see. I love to see all of your creations!

So cute! I don’t think I would have ever thought to decoupage a wreath because of the risk of the paper tearing. Great to know! Love this!! ๐
