One of the features of the fabulous new Cricut Maker is it’s ability to cut fabric. As someone who loves to create, but hates the finer details, like measuring fabric to exact precision, this was music to my ears. However, I know a lot of you have questions, like how do you find patterns to use in Design Space? No need to worry, I’m here to tell you everything you need to know about cutting the fabric to create your own Cricut Maker quilt! This two part post will deal with finding the perfect pattern (part 1) and translating that pattern to Design Space (part 2).
Cricut Maker Quilt – Finding a Pattern
There are several patterns for quilts already included in Cricut Design Space, including six designs from Riley Blake. My favorite quilt is a free project that was launched with the Cricut Maker. It’s called the Half Hexi Quilt.
You can also easily use other patterns in Cricut Design Space. The easiest way to do this is to find patterns that are mainly geometric shapes that are easy to create in DS. In my next post, I will show you how to translate a patterns shapes to Design Space, but for now, let’s look at some quilt patterns that would be ideal for beginning quilters working with their Cricut Maker.
Update: Part II of this post is now live. Check it out!
Cricut Maker Quilt – 25 Patterns that are Easy to Use in Design Space
*Note: Since the Cricut Maker cuts up to 12″, the sashing in some quilts may need to be hand cut, depending on their length.
Cricut Maker Quilt – Are You Ready?
Now that you’ve seen some fabulous ideas for quilt patterns that are easily transferable to Cricut Design Space, are you ready to get quilting? I just picked up the fabric for my daughters quilt and I can’t wait to begin. She just has to make up her mind on what pattern she would like!
If you’re looking for fabulous fabric at a great price, Cricut now sells designer fabrics. To make it even better, they are often on sale, so you get a great deal on high quality fabric. You can view the entire selection on their website.
In Part 2 of this post, I will take a pattern and break down the steps to use it in Design Space. Hang tight if you aren’t quite sure how to do that yet. Leave a comment below with your favorite pattern and maybe I will choose that one for the walk through (if my daughter doesn’t hurry up and decide!)
And if you haven’t made the leap yet to a Cricut Maker, this FAQ post may be helpful to you!

Hi there, this makes me a little sad that there are no comments here. I’m new to cricut and I splurged on the maker because I wanted to get into making simple quilts without all the measuring and cutting. These are some lovely quilt ideas. Any chance you ever made a part 2 to this blog? Because if you did, I can’t find it.

Hi Amanda – thank you so much for your sweet comment! I actually haven’t had a chance to make part 2 yet, Christmas became a little crazier than I expected. Its definitely at the top of my list for 2018 though, as soon as I get the kiddos back to school! Stay tuned 🙂

Good! I can’t wait to see your part 2! I just purchased the cricut because of the quilting feature. I am “impatiently” waiting on it to arrive.

I’m currently working on it! 🙂 Check back sometime in the next week or so!

Yay! Looking forward to part 2.

I just got my Maker right after Christmas and am wanting to try to make some throws. My mother has patience and makes beautiful quilts and cuts all the pieces by hand. However, I am not my mother’s daughter in that sense! 🙂 I have no patience to cut all those tiny pieces. I’m really looking forward to trying to do this with my Maker. I have a 5 yr old grandson and one that will be here in 2 weeks (YIKES!) and I want to make both boys quilts/throws. I look forward to using this as a guide.
