{5+5 Friday} 10 Free Blog Design Sites

I hate to admit it, but I judge books by their covers.  I judge blogs no differently.  Did that make you mad and leave?  I don’t blame you if it did, but seriously, when you think about it – would you rather look at a plain, boring blogger template or someone who has obviously put time and effort into creating a blog that reflects their personality?  I’m going to say that if you are honest, 99% of you agree with me.

There is nothing that turns me off more than visiting a blog that I expect to be awesome and seeing something like this:
With all of the resources available to you out there, this is absolutely no reason your blog should look like this, especially if you want to gain a following.  So I’m here to help.  You can hire a professional to do a custom design or even buy a low cost premade design on Etsy, but if you aren’t ready to spend money yet, don’t fret.  I’ve compiled a list of the ten best resources for free blog design resources, and shown you a selection of my favourites from each designer.

**Most of these sites offer templates for WordPress as well.

1. The Cutest Blog on the Block

2. Nymphont

3. Blogger Candy

4. Leelou Blogs

5. Trendy Girl Designs

6. The Darling Blog

7. June Lily

***The next three resources offer mix and match backgrounds and headers***

8. Shabby Blogs

9. Makin’ Cute Blogs

10. Hot Bliggity Blog

BONUS: Smitten Designs

*Smitten is currently redesigning their blogger templates, and I can only imagine what beauties they will bring you.  Keep checking back with them!  The above photo is from their premade section - Click here to see their portfolio, and you will see what I mean when I say they are gorgeous!

Now you have no excuse – cover up that ugly blogger template and let your true self show!

  1. Ha-ha – I agree! I see that boring blog and I automatically think – ‘Man this blog is probably boring’ – I think this is a great list of resources. When I was first starting out and tinkering around with my design – I definitely would have appreciated this list.

  2. What an exciting list! I’ve been smitten with all the outrageously cute blog designs I’ve seen out there. Others, not so much- so I didn’t get “mad and leave”- I totally agree with you.

I’m very new to the world of blogging and graphic design, but I’m trying to create a cute blog on my own with my own cute stuff. Trial and error is definitely involved.

    Thanks for being awesome, Sarah!

  3. Totally agree! It’s eye candy! I need a little eye candy. I used LeeLou blogs when I first started and it was very easy to set up!

  4. Thanks for sharing these! I’m always looking – of course newer to “regularly” blogging! I tend to go safe, simple, and not bogged down with mess but definitely like color and something creative to draw me in! It’s a feeling you get when you visit! I’ll look around more and see what I can change up! Thanks for sharing:) Best, Katie

  5. I totally agree! When a blog is pretty, I definitely take more notice. I thought I was just weird but I’m glad there are a few other weirdos out there like you and me :) Although I do wish you posted this about two months ago before I started working on designing my own blog! I’ll probably use this when I give up on myself ;) I’m sharing this on Facebook!

  6. Thanks foro sharing these, there are some really beautiful ones in there.

  7. Thanks for sharing!

  11. Thanks for this list! There were some that I didn’t know about that I’ll have to check out!

  12. Thanks for this, just what I needed, still using a blogger template

  13. I’ve been annoyed with the look of my blog forever now! I’m constantly changing the look (template, mind you) and I never end up liking it.
Guess this is the final straw- I’m off to build the cutest blog on the block ;) Thanks for putting this post together!

  14. Thank you for these good designs. I like to think of my design as nice and simple, without being boring. What do you think? I would hate it if I am turning away readers because Im playing it safe…
